With everything else to do as parents, it can be tough finding new school holiday activities in Sydney on a regular basis. Sydney is an oasis of wonderful and vibrant attractions and this capital city of New South Wales really offers everything from beaches to mountains, all in close proximity. If you’re reading this with the summer holidays fast approaching, get yourself a drink and read along for some excellent ideas to keep your kids busy.

The harbour is known for being a centre of entertainment and with only a couple of minutes away from the Sydney Central Business District, this place should be top on your holiday itinerary. A Sydney lunch cruise is a great way to beat the heat of the summer while sightseeing some of the biggest landmarks of Australia, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. There are many cruises for you to pick from, but the luxurious glass boat stands out due to its 360° obstructed views of the harbour and contemporary decor. Although this cruise only allows children aged 14 and above to enter, it is the ideal option if you do meet the requirements as it is a great way to relax and enjoy a lip-smacking banquet menu while enjoying the best city views. This is what makes the Sydney Harbour Lunch cruise stand out from the other harbour attractions like the museums, aquariums and other water sports.

Get up close with some of the native animals at Sydney Zoo in Bungarribee in Western Sydney, a guaranteed fun day out. Opened late in 2019, this contemporary zoo has a relatively open and interactive layout and is home to a great variety of native and exotic animals. They are proud in embracing the use of advanced technologies and innovative abilities to improve animal welfare, visitor interactions and education. Get up close with an elephant, experience the thrill of hand feeding a tiger or a lion, meet eye to eye with a crocodile and snap a photo with the adorable meerkats in the many interactive experiences in the zoo.

Sydney houses a number of indoor and outdoor ice skating rinks and some of them are even on par with world class Olympic sized arenas. In addition there may even be pop up ice skating rinks during the school holidays. This is a great way to showcase the little one’s ice skating skills and if they are new to the scene, the many experts would be more than happy to guide them into learning  a new skill. Another great activity which is not only a super exciting water sport but also a great workout is stand up paddleboarding. Some popular locations to try out this sport are Double Bay, Rose Bay and Watsons Bay.
