The technicolour of light installations, music performances and luminous projections is back to dazzle and inspires us, after two long years of hiatus. This massive collective of creativity and technology is your ultimate ticket for a thrilling journey into the soul of Sydney. Celebrating its 12 year, the festival will showcase more than 200 events which highlights the innovative and artistic qualities of the city and is expected to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest of its kind in history. Here is an insight on what to expect for Vivid Sydney 2022.

    Best Spots to See Vivid

Vivid is one of the most anticipated festivals this year and will likely attract more than a million visitors from across the nation. For that reason, it is imperative that you keep a note of some of the best spots to witness the festival. Vivid Light Cruises on the harbour will give you a unique perspective of the festival lights and installations around Circular Quay and the Harbour, including the illumination of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. Pick a multi-million dollar catamaran with three expansive outer decks for the best possible views! You can stroll the outer decks while sipping a drink or two and capture some excellent photos for your social feed. All the Vivid Cruises boasts a fully-licensed bar, making it easier for you to purchase fizzy drinks and other beverages! Following along the longest Light Walk, will also let you enjoy splendid views of the installations, light shows and projections. There are also numerous restaurants and bars centred around the action which will create a fantastic show for you on the canvas of Sydney’s towering buildings.

    Is it Free?

Absolutely! The festival is inclusive and most part of it is free to explore and enjoy. There’s no extra charge to experience the spellbinding light installations, shows and projections, and most music events including the evening concert at Tumbalong Park. While most of the events are free of charge, there are numerous ticketed events like concerts and lectures. Check the official website for dates and prices.

    Vivid Ideas

Vivid Ideas brings us an opportunity to challenge and expand our perception about the world through thought-provoking discussions, debates, deep-dive discussions and brilliant talks. Now that the restrictions are off, the organisers can gather some of the world’s greatest minds, creatives and innovators to indulge in some of the most controversial and leading-edge topics. Some standout events to look forward to this year include Troye Sivan, as he explores the hurdles of fame, beauty and fluidity at Sydney Town Hall in a live conversation with Flex Mami. American journalist Gretchen Carlson as she inspires you by discussing the importance of raising voices against violence, sexual abuse and workplace toxicity. Elsewhere at the University of Technology, you can catch an eye-opening discussion about the Future of Drugs, shedding light on the medicinal purposes and benefits of psychoactive drugs.

    Events for Kids

The little ones love exploring the art installations and light sculptures, especially Lights on and the Lighting of the Sails of the Opera House at 6pm. Check out the Genext X Vivid Ideas takeover of the Museum of Contemporary Art, a youth centre event featuring creative experiences, interactive workshops and lots of music! Taronga Zoo hosts the Wild Lights which will light up the zoo with illuminated animal figures in a ticketed event, perfect for the whole family. You can also head to Tumbalong Park every Saturday evening at 5pm for live music concerts as part of the Vivid Kids, featuring performances by Justin Clarke, Diver City, Teeny Tiny Stevies and the Vegetable Plot.
