We’re not going to dwell on the fact that Vivid Sydney was cancelled for almost two years due to the pandemic because it is back again in 2022! This time, the festival is looking to reach newer heights with numerous massive-scale installations and festival firsts, including the longest Light Walk in history. This extravagant showcasing of creative talents and innovative minds will take place for 23 days from the 27th of May through June 18. Here’s a snapshot of what to expect for the biggest festival of lights in the Southern Hemisphere.

With more than a million visitors every year, the festival has become a staple in the city's winter economy, so it is only evident that people will be looking to secure the best spots. The harbour, like every year, will take the spotlight with many prominent events centred in or around it. One of the best and easiest ways to catch sight of all action is to jump on the popular Vivid Cruises in Sydney Harbour and take it all in from the waters, even better if you opt for the modern catamaran. This multi-million dollar vessel boasts three expansive outer decks for viewing making it ideal for witnessing all the harbour spectacles. Fill your social feed with vivid colours by capturing exquisite frames of the Lighting  of the Sails of the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, Luna Park and many more from the spacious outer decks. Oh and while you're at it, enjoy a freshly-prepared dinner and club it with a beverage package to make it even more special! A Sydney Vivid Cruise is also your ideal option if you're looking for a classy dining spot during the festival. So wait no more! Get your seats today!

Enlightening the city with thought-provoking talks, uplifting the revellers with exhilarating music and creating a kaleidoscope of colours on Sydney’s towering structures and secret spaces is what Vivid Sydney is all about. The festival seeks to unravel the true essence behind the soul of the city by exploring the roots of the city through contemporary, creative works in unorthodox spaces such as The Goodlines Tunnel. This railway line became disused years ago but wil reawaken this year as part of Vivid Sydney, by becoming a portal to a conflux of lights, lasers and smokes with Mandylights, Australia. Being the biggest laser installation in Vivid’s history, this historic space will shock the visitors as they swirl into a cave of bouncing light rays.

The Lighting of the Sails of the Opera House is one of the major drawcards of the event but that’s not the only highlight of this iconic landmark. The Opera House will set the stage to welcome an impressive lineup of renowned Aussie musicians and upcoming talents throughout the course of the festival. This list of musicians include Miiesha, Tkay Maidza, Paul Kelly, Meg Mac, Sampa The Great, Masego, and a whole lot more! This is the ultimate chance for Sydneysiders to once again dance to the rhythm of the city after a very long time! But that’s not it! One of the festival firsts of Vivid Sydney, Vivid Kids is a special event for the little ones! Head to Tumbalong Park, every Saturday at 5pm, and give the kids a chance to enjoy the festival with a fun zone, playground and music acts.

Vivid Ideas is what adds a touch of inspiration and enlightenment among the light and sounds of the festival. The organisers have made special efforts to bring in some of the brilliant minds of the plant together for thought-provoking debates, discussions and talks of many fascinating topics. Discuss beauty, fashion and fluidity with pop sensation Troye Sivan or get inspired by a powerful talk from Gretchen Carlson, among others.
