It is currently one of the most populous cities in Australia and also, one of the most livable places in the world.   When one thinks of Australia, Sydney and its world-famous harbour might be two things that run to your mind. It is claimed that Sydney Harbour is the world’s deepest natural harbour. It was formerly known as Port Jackson, where the Europeans first arrived, marking the beginning of its spectacular transformation into a city. Today, if you visit the harbour, there is more to it than just the ancient fortifications including Fort Denison and the Royal Botanic Gardens. The world-famous structures—Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House—are two major attractions that lure in more tourists to the city than anything else. To enjoy the historic beauty of the harbour, visitors often choose to dine at one of the harbourside restaurants, take the ferry, or get aboard a harbour cruise lunch for dining and sightseeing.   Another fantastic destination in Sydney is the Blue Mountains and there are so many interesting facts about these hazy mountains. The Blue Mountains got its name because of the bluish tinge it takes when viewed from afar. This phenomenon is caused by the dispersion of the volatile oils in the atmosphere. These eucalyptus oil vapours combine with dust, light and water vapour which create a blue hue causing the mountains to change their colour. Also, the Blue Mountains is home to the famous Three Sisters, a breathtaking rock formation representing an Aboriginal legend of three sisters who were turned to stone after a witch doctor’s spell misfired.  

  Another fun fact about Sydney is that it is one of the first cities to see the New Year as it is located near the International Date Line. The New Year’s Eve fireworks at Sydney Harbour are considered one of the largest in the world.
