Australia Tour Guide | Whales, Cruises and More

Australia is a vast country filled with incredible natural beauty. It has gained popularity as a wonderful destination for camping, road trips, backpacking, diving, snorkelling and so on. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to travel the length and breadth of Australia, sometimes crisscrossing some of the destinations more than once. If you’re a traveller like me, but new to Aussie land, I’m here to help.

From exploring fun and memorable activities on the world-famous Sydney Harbour to swimming with the whales of Ningaloo in Western Australia, I have collated a roster of my favourite activities and destinations in the country. I hope you’ll like them too.

Explore the Emerald City of Sydney

What’s an Aussie itinerary without Sydney on it? The most populated capital city in the country, also known as the Emerald City, is home to two of the most celebrated architectural wonders of the times—Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House—situated on the world’s prettiest harbour. Count yourself in for a walking tour around the city to visit these urban wonders and explore the food and art precincts. Or you could get aboard one of the Sydney dinner cruises to glide under and past the Bridge and the Opera House. Not every traveller in the city might get enough time to visit all the prominent attractions of Sydney within a few days. And it might be a great idea to hop aboard a ferry or a harbour cruise to cover some of them in one go. A Sydney Harbour cruise dinner is one of those experiences that will bedazzle you with the night lights and illuminated harbour attractions. Not to mention, the delicious food!!

    Visit Tasmania

Tasmania, an island state of Australia, is quite the stunner. Claimed to have the cleanest air and water in the world, Tasmania is indeed a paradise on Earth. Despite the state being hailed as one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, not many travellers make it down here, since it lies beyond the main tourist trails. I visited this terribly under-visited site for the first time in December 2018. And man…I was awestruck! It’s definitely not just the clean air and the water that makes Tasmania a paradise on Earth. If you’re visiting Tasmania, make sure to spend at least two weeks on this little yet vast island teeming with life. Some of the best places I visited include Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park, Lavender Fields at Bridestowe Estate, Bay of Fires, The Hazards and Cradle Mountain National Park.

    See the whales of Ningaloo

Whales are just something, aren’t they!? Western Australia is one of the most prominent whale watching destinations in the world and I am quite fortunate to have visited the place twice in the past. Ningaloo in Western Australia is a World Heritage site that is renowned for its Humpback Highways and its nutrient-rich waters. When you’re on a whale watching cruise, it might seem like the whales love putting on a bit of a show, plus they look super adorable frolicking with their calves! I picked Ningaloo out of all the whale watching destinations in WA, as it is known for its highest density of humpback whales in the Southern Hemisphere. The best time to visit Ningaloo for whale watching is between June and November, when an estimated 30,000 humpback whales migrate from Antarctica in search of breeding and birthing grounds. Some other whale watching destinations in Western Australia are as follows: Perth, Broome, Busselton, Augusta, Albany, Bremer Bay and Dunsborough.

Don’t fancy any of these? Not a thing to worry about! I’ll be back with more experiences next week.
