Six 5-Letter Wordle Alternatives

Wordle took the internet by storm and was bought for $700,000 by the New York Times. We love Wordle, a simple and addicting word game, but there's a universe of puzzlers beyond the 5x6 grid.

Here are our favorite math and geography choices. Whether you want to take a vacation from Wordle or never play it again, you'll probably find something here.

    Redactle

We enjoy Redactle's unique take on Wordle. Guess the deleted words from a Wikipedia article. It's hard to start because you have so few words, but it becomes easier as you add more and discover the article's focus.

    Quordle

Quordle is harder than Wordle. It follows the same premise as Wordle and is also focused on five-letter words, but this time there are four to work through, in a total of nine guesses. This adds added difficulty since you're keeping track of four separate Wordles at once.

    Nerdle

Nerdle swaps words for sums in a Wordle-like format—always there's an equals sign. As with Wordle, you'll receive suggestions with each guess, but the colour is different. Fun method to test or relearn math.

    Squardle

Squardle isn't for wimps. There are several instructions, a large board, and hints to consider as you guess letters to create words. Wordle has red, orange, and black tiles in addition to yellow and green.

    Semantle

We'd only suggest Semantle for avid Wordle-like puzzle fans. It takes practice to predict a word based on its semantic similarity to past guesses. Word connections need lateral thinking.

    Heardle

Heardle lets you predict a song's opening. You have one second to start (good job if you grasp the music) and 16 seconds total. You may skip a guess if you want extra time, but it counts as one of your six chances to identify the famous song.
