GIPSA and Its Widespread Implications

    What is GIPSA (General Insurance Public Sector Association)?

    Oriental Insurance Company, New India Assurance Company, National Insurance Company, and United India Insurance Company make up GIPSA, which is a conglomerate of four top public sector insurance businesses. This consortium of insurers has restricted cashless services to hospitals that accept their price bands and join their preferred provider network, or PPN. According to sources, this judgement has affected more than 5.49 crore health insurance policyholders. According to reports, several major hospitals (560 at last count) have already signed up for GIPSA. However, well-known hospital chains like Fortis and Apollo continue to operate outside of the GIPSA framework due to rate consistency difficulties.
